Investigation first, conservation throughout.
York House is a Grade II listed building where SMT Associates provided connected conservation and building-pathology services across the project.
Our involvement included damp monitoring and timber investigation, using resistance micro-drilling to assess the condition of concealed timber, alongside masonry and lime-mortar work, specialist lining membranes and the refurbishment of the building's sash windows.
The approach followed the practice's core principle: understand the sources, pathways and reservoirs of moisture in the building before specifying repair, retain sound historic fabric wherever possible, and use materials compatible with the original construction.
Recognition
The project received a Constructing Excellence South West regional award in 2025, with SMT Associates named among the organisations involved.
